A time of superstition, slavery and bloodshed. But Frost believes in truth and kindness. And so he is marked for death.

Mountain Bearsdaughter and her Bear Clan control a wilderness of forest and coastline on Canada’s West Coast. Her bizarre Bear religion is imposed everywhere. Frost, the young historian of an opposing clan, clings stubbornly to the ancient values of the Good Times.

But his people are few in number. 

And they are afraid.

How could they not betray him?
